The Quiet Years · 1965–1979
The landmark waits
1970s
The Heights spent the 1970s out of fashion, and the corner went quiet with it; the city directories stopped carrying a line for the building at all. Yet when the house next door at 1123 Harvard was nominated to the National Register in 1980, its paperwork located it the way any neighbor would: “adjacent to the old Masonic Lodge.”
Officially unlisted, commercially quiet, the building remained what it had been since 1930: the fixed point by which the block described itself.
