Fourteen homes, one ghost sign

Today the building holds fourteen homes inside the temple’s bones: pink Tennessee marble at the entrance, steel columns set in 13-inch masonry walls, foot-thick concrete floors, and ninety-five years of documented life on one corner.

Above the Harvard Street entrance, the carved square-and-compass panel the draftsmen recorded in 1964 is still faintly legible in the right light: the building’s first life, keeping quiet watch over all the others. This site exists to give every one of those lives its record.
