Convincing enough for the movies

1990

In 1990 a film production chose the 1100 block of Harvard to stand in for California of the 1920s. The block’s intact period character, with the old temple as its anchor, was convincing enough for the cameras.

It is a backhanded kind of preservation certificate, and an accurate one: the corner still looked like its own history.
